Thermal spray technology
Author:
It refers to a technology that uses a certain heat source, such as an electric arc, plasma arc, combustion flame, etc. to heat powdered or filamentary metal and non-metallic coating materials to a molten or semi-molten state, and then uses the power of the flame flow itself or an external high-speed airflow to atomize and spray at a certain speed onto the surface of the pre-treated substrate material, and combines with the substrate material to form a surface coating with various functions. During the spraying process, the molten particles hit the substrate surface and spread into thin sheets, and instantly cool and solidify. Subsequent particles continue to hit the previously formed thin sheets and accumulate to form a coating.

Thermal spraying technology can be divided into atmospheric plasma spraying, supersonic plasma spraying, arc spraying, high-speed arc spraying, flame spraying, supersonic flame spraying, explosion spraying, cold spraying, etc. according to the different heat sources. The general process of thermal spraying includes three basic processes, namely surface pretreatment, spraying and coating post-treatment. The basic process flow is shown in the figure:
Thermal spraying technology has the comprehensive advantages of low coating preparation cost, high efficiency, simple and flexible process, etc. The coatings that can be prepared have many functions, including wear resistance, corrosion resistance, high temperature resistance, oxidation resistance, heat insulation, conductivity, insulation, friction reduction, lubrication, radiation protection, etc. It has been widely used in aviation, power generation, automobile and metallurgical fields, and is increasingly receiving attention and attention from the industry.
